Theorizing Cultural Difference
Theorizing Cultural Difference
Colonialism facilitates the reproduction of the western experience of India and her traditions as the true description of India. This project demonstrates how western experiences, and their descriptions percolate into various academic disciplines like History, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Law, Developmental Studies, Sanskrit Studies, Hermeneutics, Indology, Literature, to name a few. In most of these disciplines, the contemporary problems are used to characterize the colonial consciousness which is the vehicle of the western description of India and using these descriptions an attempt is being made to offer a partial description of western culture. This partial description is then used to contrast the differences in the way Indians go about their world and that becomes the beginning of offering alternative descriptions of India.
