This project will try to show how the existing understanding of the relationship between texts and society is formulated by scholars in Indology and Human Sciences. Also, it will show how these scholars have referred to and made use of the ancient texts or Sastras. In the backdrop of these formulations some broad possibilities of examining the idea of jaati and its present position within caste system studies will be shown along with the examination of the relationship between texts and human actions as formulated in the field of Indology and Philology. This research broadly tries to address this question with the example of Jāti and Śāstrokta Vidhi ācāra.
