Priya Nair has a master’s in Sanskrit. Her work shows how studying Indian texts stems from specific methodological approaches rooted in European philological and hermeneutical traditions. Her study will examine how such methods, drawn from European experience, have shaped the reading of Indian texts which results in harmful consequences for understanding Indian traditions. It will also highlight how these approaches wrongly assume European cultural ways of engaging with texts to be universally applicable across cultures.
